.so version mismatch

.so version mismatch

Post by pvo.. » Tue, 15 Oct 2002 21:29:10

I am puzzled by the following problem:

/XYZ/libqaz.so: file not recognized: File format not recognized
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
make: *** [eazyx_02] Error 1

The only difference I see is that one for the files is "stripped".

Library versions:

Oude ".so" files:
libqaz.so: ELF 32-bit LSB shared object, Intel 80386, version 1,
libcbpim21.so: ELF 32-bit LSB shared object, Intel 80386, version 1, not

Some version information:
GNU ld version (with BFD
gcc version 2.96 20000731 (Red Hat Linux 7.1 2.96-98)
Linux linux-2.mycomp.com 2.4.7-10 #1 Thu Sep 6 17:27:27 EDT 2001 i686

1. kernel-module version mismatch (a RedHat 7.0 bug?)

I have just installed RedHat 7.0.
I tried to create and insert a simple module but I got the following

--during compilation (gcc .....) --
/tmp/xxxxxx.s: Assembler messages:
/tmp/xxxxxx.s: Warning: ignoring changed section attributes for

--while inserting module (insmod ...) --
hello.o: kernel-module version mismatch
hello.o was compiled for version
while this kernel version is 2.2.16-22

I went to check on <linux/version.h> and UTS_RELEASE was defined as although the kernel version is 2.2.16-22 (which appears on
the login prompt)

Is it a bug? How can I make it work??

                                        Thanks in advance,
                                                                                Rui Antunes
