WANTED:- C routines to manipulate mail folders

Post by Wendi » Wed, 10 Jun 1992 10:52:40

I need some routines that will safely manipulate mail files.  The routines
need to be able to extract articles, extract headers for articles (ie. who
from, date, subject), and delete articles.  All this while knowing that the
mail file could be updated (ie. new mail arriving) at any given time.
The first two I can really do myself easily enough, but being able to delete
articles while the file could be updated at any stage has me stopped.

Any takers?

Thanks in advance.

Is this the concurrency problem ?
In that case flock() should help.

WANTED:- C routines to manipulate mail folders

Hello,

I've been porting software from MSDOS systems to unix, and I can't seem to find the
routines that handle filenames and attributes. With MSDOS, I am using findfirst() and findnext().
Could someone tell me what they would be for say SunOS, and/or where there is a listing
of file routines for unix?

Thanks,
Hee So

Well the first thought is to grab existing mail routines.
One of the FAQ's in news.answers discusses mail programs.
The authors of Pine say they have a C library for handling
mail.  That's worth a look to begin with.

Good luck.
