Using Meta key in an xterm

Using Meta key in an xterm

Post by Brice Rosenzwei » Fri, 25 Apr 1997 04:00:00

Hello,

I would like to know if it is possible to use the meta key in an
xterm. Mostly I would like to be able to use emacs in the xterm
(option -nw) and use the key bindings to meta without using esc.
I am using SunOS 4.1.4, X11, tcsh

Thanks,

Brice

Depends on the xterm, and the keyboard settings. You might get more help
in the X newsgroups.

[Works perfectly for me, with XFree86 3.2 (X11R6.1).]

1. meta key doesn't work in xterms with Redhat-6.0

Just installed Redhat-6.0.  The Meta key no longer works in bash in xterms
(i.e. the Alt Key of PC keyboards).  It works ok in Redhat-5.2.  The
xterms seem to be producing 8-bit characters now,  which I definitely
don't want. Any idea how to fix it?  (Using the Escape key isn't the answer!)
