Text metrics: X v. PostScript

Does anybody know if the font metrics returned by XTextWidth in X ,for
example, give the same values as the equivalent PostScript commands for
the same font? If not, how does one find the appropriate values for
PostScript fonts (or can you suggest any books on the topic)?

1. postscript printer is printing the postscript text

After installing SuSe 6.1, and installing my postscript printer using
YAST,  I can't use my printer anymore, since it prints postscript texts
literally, rather than the formatted contents.

Any suggestions?
