What does it mean synchronous in FreeBSD?

I heard that FreeBSD file system is better than linux because BSD use
synchronous I/O instead of asynchorous I/O.

This mean FreeBSD doesn't support asynchorous i/o call such as posix 1.g
aio_xxxxx ?

You can't blindly say that FreeBSD is better than Linux.   There are so many
factors
to be considered like NFS speed, scheduler robustness, memory requirement
etc.

FreeBSD provides slower but safer synchronous disk access. Safer meaning
it will be better for recovery of data after crashes.
But linux provides asynchronous faster disk access.

better post this in someother FreeBSD /Linux related  newsgroups.  You can
have
better detailed discussion on this.

No, they're talking about how I/O is done between the kernel and the
disk, not how it's done between an application and the kernel. The aio_
functions have nothing to do with file systems.

1. Netscape Plug-ins under Freebsd ??

Folks;
I am looking at writing a Netscape Plug-in. I have the Netscape
"PluginSDK30b5" from their website. There is no FreeBSD makefile, but
the Linux one runs to completion; creating npsimple.so.
Unfortunately, Netscape 4.04 crashes when I put this in the plugins
directory and ask about loaded plugins.

I notice that the linux binary version specifically calls out ELF
format. Is the problem the lack of the object format? What is the
situation concerning plugins on FreeBSD?
