Hello,
        I intend on doing some programming under linux on a pentium machine. Is is
possible to do direct access of video memory?

Yes it is - a good way to find out about this is to email

debates/questions/patches are posted.  They can help you quite extensively
there, largely because the people who wrote that part of the linux kernel
would be helping you!

1. Ultra dma and Linux Slackware 2.0.18

I try to install Slackware 2.0.18 with Ultra-Dma hd (Seagate 3.2G)
My motherboard is Asus Sp97v,

.. but when installing with Floppy I got:
"kernel panic Unable to mount fs".
