If I work with Midnight Commander 4.1 in FreeBSD 2.2.5 from
Windows NT Telnet (terminal VT100) everywhere on screen

So you set the telnet program to VT100 and set your TERMQuote:> If I work with Midnight Commander 4.1 in FreeBSD 2.2.5 from Windows NT
> Telnet (terminal VT100) everywhere on screen appear symbols "$<2>". Why?

: Windows NT telnet isn't very good, try http://www.chrysalis.org/jbj for
: one that works.
Alternatively, try setting TERM to vt102 or vt220. I had this problem
with 95 telnet a few years back... forget which one (or both?) work :)

A better overall solution might be to get one of the free X
implementations available for NT, or a commercial one like Hummingbird
eXceed.
Good Luck,
