Cyrix 6x86 and Netscape 4.07b problems

Post by Gregory Pavelc » Thu, 14 Aug 1997 04:00:00

I am running FreeBSD 2.2.2 on a Cyrix 6x86L 200+. Generic Kernel calls it
a 486 type CPU, is that OK? Anything I should do to my own kernel to help
this thing work?

Also, I had Netscape Communicator 4.07b running fine for a couple of days.
Now when I try to load it, in addition to the usual messages that some
of my lib files are older than expected, I get "bus error" and it stops
loading. It creates a "lock" file linked to my local host

lock --> 127.0.0.1:255

if that means anything.

Thanks alot.

Greg

Just sidetracking here a little - what version of FreeBSD was Communicator
4.07b compiled on?  I've just been wondering about those
old lib file messages.....

Just a followup on the original post. This may be really stupid, but I
don't know if this matters or not. I originally installed FreeBSD 2.2.2
when I was using an 80MHz AMD 486 chip, then I switched chip and mainboard
so I am now using the Cyrix. Perhaps it's my imagination, but there seems
to be more things going wrong since the switch.

1. A problem with Cyrix 6x86

I am having the following problem with my new Cyrix 6x86 120+ system
I am unable to compile and programs.

My system
GCC 2.7.0
Kernel 1.2.13
Slackware
Cyrix 120+ 6x86
Gigabyte MB
40Mb Ram

Has anyone had a similar problem with the Cyrix chip? Problem with gcc 2.7.0?

Thanks for any help or suggestions

BTW: Would anyone be interested in a Cyrix + Linux mailing list?
