Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server

Post by piete » Tue, 29 Jan 2002 21:32:50

Have recently reinstalled FreeBSD 4.x (current version), have created
a user but can't get a window manager (window maker) to fire up. The
error tells me no .Xauthority (or something similar)

here is .xsession-errors file from user directory. Am I missing
something really simple ??

Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: Client is not authorized to connect to Server
Error: Can't open display: :0

any guidance would be appreciated, pieter

For security reasons X can only be started as root (default).  There are
several ways around this, setting the suid bit, something I don't know
anymore :) and installing the wrapper-script.

for the wrapper: you can find it in the ports /usr/ports/x11/wrapper/
just instal this thingy and you'll be able to run X as a normal user.

PS: this question has been answered before, if u want more info there
probably are some more posts concerning this subject in this group.

Have fun with BSD :)

Something like running xdm or kdm, perhaps.

That was one of the ones BB remembered and I edited from the quote.

1. Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server

Hello!

We're setting up a bunch of Ultra 30's (Solaris 2.6), and seeing
some X errors.  In particular, when we fire up FrameMaker, it
will freeze with the following error:

Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: Maximum number of clients reached

I realize this is probably an X tunable parameter, but not
knowing too too much about Solaris - not sure which one..

Anyone have any ideas??

Thanks!
Peggy
