2.2.5-R HANDBOOK and FAQ missing from ftpx.freebsd.org

Post by Boris Gelfa » Wed, 11 Mar 1998 04:00:00

While recently installing 2.2.5-R through ftp from any of the
US sites, I noticed that the Handbook and FAQ are either
missing or moved from the doc distro - anyone knows what gives?

Thanks and my apologies if I'm being stupid.

Boris

Hm, I don't know of FTP, 'cause I've got the 4-CD set and there, they're
on one of the other CDs (and not installed automatically).
If you want, I can mail you the sets (FAQ+hb).

cheers,
Rainer

I've got the 4-CD set too (for 2.2.5), and I'm missing a handbook and FAQ
too. Any clues as to where I might find it?

Thanks,
Richard.

Yeah I have the fourdisc set too.  The handbook and FAQ are on the third
disk, under the directory /cvs-repo/doc
Guess they where misplaced :)
The only problem is they are in sgml format.  And honestly I cannot
figure out how to read them :(

The www.freebsd.org website is in html format on the third disc under
/cdrom/www/index.html.  You can get to the handbook and faq from there
with netscape or lynx.  I Think the package sgmlformat will convert sgml
to html.

1. FreeBSD 3.3 does not install the handbook and the FAQ

Hi all,
I installed FreeBSD 3.3 for the first time on my home PC
(it is the first time for FreeBSD, not for Unix ;-),
but I can't see the documentation in /usr/share/doc.
I supposed that after installing the doc package
the handbook and the FAQ were located right there.
Am I wrong?
Moreover, lynx could not contact localhost (is it necessary
to use a Web server to see local documentation?). So I installed apache
but apache complained about the ServerName then I modified the apache.conf
adding
ServerName localhost
but it does not work.
Any hints?

Thanks in advance
