My last post on the topic -

Zenin, if you're reading this, I'd also like to see you write a new OS
in Perl.  Just how much of a wizard are you, buddy?

God, I'm going to be hated and killfiled for following up to this.

You can't even write a _whole_ (including kernel) new os in pure C. Just
take a look at Lions Commentary on UNIX 6th Edition. Sheet 05 through to
Sheet 14 (Lines 0500-1468) are all in assembly. The files are so named
as low.s and m40.s.

Respects to FreeBSD Core team - I can only 'do' assebly on Z80 and 6502
x86 ASM is something that makes me balk at first look.

regards

Chris

Entirely untrue.  It's been done before, and will be done again.  I
can't cite sources, just that I know it can and has been done.
Perhaps someone else could help me out with proofs.

1. c-shell as a command language rather than a programming language

This question is well covered in the "Csh Programming Considered Harmful"
posting by  Tom Christiansen. This is (or was?) a regular post in the
following groups:
comp.unix.shell,comp.unix.questions,comp.unix.programmer,news.answers

Basically, I'd say that a good command language would provide features
for working on the command line (like command history), while a good
programming tool would provide good programming features (like error
handling and logging) and portability.

Please refer to Tom Christiansen's post!

Oops:
When searching for the article I couldn't find it!? My saved copy
is dated Oct 1993. Is it still being posted?
