Solutions:
  fix the chat script
  fix the ISP
  fix the modem

It sort of depends on what is failing.  I have PPP (user PPP)
messages logged to a separate file (/var/log/ppp.log) just so I
could debug this sort of stuff.  I think I have the logging options
from the 'examples' ppp.conf, and that gives a lot of information.

Look at the logged output.  Most likely there is an "expect" message
followed soon after by a "chat script failed" message.  What is
happening around there will tell you what is failing.

Do you get connected and get the error or not get connected at all?
What is in your ppp.conf file?

I still get chat script failures because my modem sometimes fails
to detect that the connection has dropped.  But that is usually
not a problem when I'm trying to connect (until the next time).

seems like your chat script doesn't work (the file used with chat -f).
what' your isp? maybe someone who also has your isp could provide a
working script.

maybe you could provide more specific error messages, ...

I get no connection at all and my isp is i-sphere.com

1. ppp script failed

I'm trying to set up ppp, I did this before but I didn't have any
problems. Now I do.

I have a external USR modem. I tried to use a program I found
called pppsetup that creates the script ppp-go for me.
With that tool, the script created activates the modem, and does
the call, I follow the /var/messages and when it links to
the ppp0 it seems fine, but then it says : modem hanged and
the connection stops.

I tried to use an older script I had but it doesn't even makes
the call, in the messages I just see :
ppp script failed

that's absolutely clueless, I checked the scripts path, the modem
device, etc, but I'd like to know how to get more feedback
from the scripts so I could know what failed.
