strange internet problem

I use kppp to connect to the net. If I disconnect while I'm in the
GUI, everything is fine.  If I go back to the CLI and disconnect using
the kill (PID) command or ifI lose the connection another way, the PC
reboots.
Any ideas?

On FreeBSD 4.2 I use kppp to connect to the net.  In other words I
didn't edit ppp-on and the other files that are used when connecting
to the net in a CLI, so I only connect in the GUI.  If I disconnect
using the while I'm still in the GUI, everything is fine, but if I go
back to the CLI for a while, then disconnect using the kill (PID)
command or if I lose my connection for any reason, the PC reboots.
Any ideas?

I'm not sure what the problem could be, but have you taken a look at
/var/log/messages? Might be some useful info there.

I do see something now that you meantion it.
Jan  6 14:57:50 quesejoda /kernel: pid 453 (kppp), uid 0: exited on
signal 6 (core dumped)
What's w/ the core dumped?  Why should kppp do that?  Keep in mind
that I already exited the GUI and returned to command line when I
killed the ps pid.

1. Very strange problem with Internet

Hi,

Just recently I set up Linux (RH6.0) on my machine. Then I wanted to
connect my Linux machine to my ISP. All good, I could setup my serial modem
to call my ISP using KPPP and eventually I was connected. Strange things
happen however.

I can ping machines on the Internet (very high values, though this could be
a problem with my ISP as well). Other difficulties are that I cannot browse
a lot of sites. Some sites I just cannot acces using Netscape 4.51. Pages I
_can_ access are www.linux.org for instance.... weird weird...
www.redhat.com however, I cannot connect to.

I cannot ftp to sites. Error is: 'no route to host'

This is so strange...
does anyone have a suggestion solving these problems?

thanks in advance,
Ferdinand.
