Ghostscript: Epson Stylus Color 600

Would you all mind helping me out?
I cannot get postscript stuff to print right. I'm following the
directions in the FreeBSD manual and just don't know where I am messing
up. plain text works fine.

Here are my files:

# /etc/printcap

lp|epson|Epson Stylus Color 500:\
        :sh:sd=/var/spool/output/lpd:\
        :lp=/dev/lpt0:\
        :if=/usr/local/libexec/epsonif:\
        :lf=/var/log/lpd-errs:

=================

#!/bin/sh
#/usr/local/libexec/epsonif

    read first_line
    first_two_chars=`expr "$first_line" : '\(..\)'`

    if [ "$first_two_chars" = "%!" ]; then
        #  It is PostScript; use Ghostscript to scan-convert and print it.
        exec 3>&1 1>&2
        /usr/local/bin/gs -dSAFER -dNOPAUSE -q -sDEVICE=stcolor \
            -sOutputFile=/dev/fd/3 - && exit 0

        #

        /usr/local/bin/gs -dSAFER -dNOPAUSE -q \
            -sDEVICE=stcolor -r720x720 stcolor.ps\
            -sOutputFile=- - \
            && exit 0
    else
        cat && printf "\f" && exit 0

 fi
    exit 2

Apart from that I have the same configuration as you (I am using a Epson Stylus
Color 740).

I use:
----
[...]
else
  #
  #  Plain text or HP/PCL, so just print it directly; print a form
  #  at the end to eject the last page.
  #
  echo $first_line && cat && printf "\033&l0H" && exit 0
  fi
----

Does your gs have the stcolor device compiled in?

gs --help | grep stcolor should look like this:
 stcolor uniprint lj250 paintjet pjetxl hl7x0 imagen jetp3852 lbp8 lips3

Install and "SETUP" of the port: apsfilter - really simplifies printer
setup.

1. ghostscript and Epson Stylus Color 600

I use StarOffice and Wordperfect for Linux, and thus far I have been
saving my files in Postscript format, then using Ghostview or Kghostview
(KDE) to view and print them.  Is there a more direct way to print my
files without using ghostview?  (Can I use ghostscript directly from the
word processors some how, in other words?)  Thanks for any suggestions.
