softupdates on 4.0

recompiled kernel with softupadtes as usual.
reboot into singleuser mode
tunefs -n enable /usr
it said smth like softupdates unabled

then when in multi-user mode:

/dev/wd0s3f on /usr (ufs, NFS exported, local, writes: sync 12418 async
26955, reads: sync 7051

I don't see softupdates flag... what's up with that? How can I check
that softupdates are actually running? on my other system:

/dev/ad0s1f on /usr (ufs, local, soft-updates, writes: sync 6 async
6084, reads: sync 17334 async 208)

Sounds like softupdates didn't end up in the kernel, somehow. Check
your symilnks for the softupdates code and that the option is
definitely in the kernel config file.

nope, I forgotten to mention that when I did it first time mount did
show softupdates mode! After reboot it went away...

Are you shure you are rebooting to the kernel that has softupdates
enabled? I am running with softupdates enabled in 4.0 and have
rebooted many times... my mount command shows:

/dev/da0a on / (ufs, local, soft-updates, writes: sync 82 async 19087, reads: sync 10232 async 541)

Regards,
Jacob

Perhaps it is using an alternate superblock.  Despite that the man
page says the -A flag is potentially dangerous, it is a good idea in
this case to use it.

just to close this thread...
I did*up the kernel somehow. This is really weird, but the option SOFTUPDATES dissapeared from
it :(
I put it back, recompiled, works fine now
sorry for confusion

1. Kernel error messages & softupdate

I finally managed to install FreeBSD 3.2 (yay!), but I have a few
questions:

1) Occasionally, the FreeBSD Kernel throws up a message along the lines
of: "device acd0: read_toc failed." This is not a show stopper, but
annoying nevertheless.

2) I want to enable that softupdate thingy to get asynchronous writes.
Someone here said to "check out /sys/i386/conf/LINT". However, when I
write "cd /sys" as root, I get the message that "there is no such file
or directory." When I open Midnight Commander, the "sys" us in red text.
What gives? How do I enable softupdates?

Thanks for your help.
