No, but i've been watching their 4.0 development for years now...

Sure, everything's in progress, isn't it? :) They haven't got enough
people motivated to port any and all of the old drivers to the new
architecture within the last couple of years, so i doubt there's any
hope that it will happen in future (unless by pushing out the release,
some `innocent bystander' might now pop up helping out with this). My
bet is that most of what's unsupported now will never be supported
again in future (well, at least regarding chipsets, not regarding
features like missing acceleration of course).
Also, FreeBSD 4.0 is supposed to be `new technology', so i can assure
you this definately wouldn't have been the show-stopper. Jordan
considered bundling XFree86 4.0, but since that has only been released
one week before the decided FreeBSD 4.0 date, time was too tight.
