Newbie with startx / xinit - problem... FBSD 3.4 - Enlightenment

Post by Ish » Fri, 03 Nov 2000 19:42:59

Hi,

I installed XFree86, VNCserver and Enlightenment on my FreeBSD 3.4.
I meant to have X with Enlightenment on my WindowsMe-box using the VNCclient
I installed.
But I only get Xwin... A ugly gray screen, with a black-cross called
mouse-icon.
I tried running startx and enlightenment thru telnet, because I don't have a
screen, mouse nor keyboard
connected to my Fbsd, but it keeps giving me errors.
I would like to see my enlightenment work thru that VNCclient.

Hope someone can help, please?
'cause I'm quite desperate. (or how do you say that? =)

Ish.
ps. If you need more information, just say so...

giving up.
xinit:  No such file or directory (errno 2):  unable to connect to X server

That's nice.

Now you should RTM, where you will be told that ~/.vnc/xstartup, and not
~/.xinitrc, is what you should edit to control what gets started when you
start Xvnc.

You can cp ~/.xinitrc ~/.vnc/xstartup, and that should work if 'startx'
at the console gives you the desired results.

1. REQ: Problem with xinit and Slackware 3.4

I have a running Slackware 3.4 system w/ Kernel 2.0.33.
I have installed and configured X 3.3.1

When I try to run #startx;
I get this...
        xinit: can't load library 'libXmu.so.6'

and it fails.

I have tried reloading all of the X binaries but it still doesn't work.
I have compiled the kernel as elf and compiled in support for the a.out
stuff.  I don't know what to check next.

Any help?
