Yamaha OPL3-SAx

Yamaha OPL3-SAx

Post by Ivan Li » Thu, 07 Sep 2000 00:36:00

Hi,

I have a Yamaha OPL3-SAx in an Dell Dimension running FBSD 3.2
release.  I have not been able to make the system see the sound
card. I've tried several kernel configurations suggested in this ng
but none worked (pcm0 not found). However, I get some interesting
messages when the system is booting up. Using the following line in
the kernel configuration:

device pcm0 at isa? port? tty irq 5 drq 0 flags 0x11

I get from the PNP probe at booting:

THIS IS A YAMAHA SA3, BUT LDN 0 IS DISABLED

But later I get:

     pcm0 not found

The card works fine in Windows 95 and the configuration from the
Device manager is:

YAMAHA OPL3-SAx

IO 0220 - 022F
IO 0530 - 0537
IO 0388 - 038F
IO 0330 - 0331
IO 0370 - 0371
IRQ   5

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I have a cheap ($11) soundcard that I tried to get working in my old
Digital box.  The message I got was that I had an "OPTi 731, but LDN0 is
disabled".  I poked blindly around the driver code until I convinced
myself that there was no way I was going to get it to work, and gave up
and dropped another $30 on a Creative Labs(TM) SoundBlaster 16, which
worked just fine.  And actually, now that I think about it, even that
didn't work in FreeBSD 3.3, but worked fine in 3.4, which is what I had on
it until I sold it.

Tony.

Ivan,

Sorry but, I don't have an answer for you.  I have the same
card and have been unable to get it to work.  If you find an
answer, please let me know it and I'll do likewise.

thanks

1. Yamaha OPL3-SAX sound card...

Folks,

I"ve got a Yamaha OPL3-SAx PNP sound card that I *cannot* get
configured to work properly.  I'm using a slightly updated version of
RedHat 4.1, isapnptools-1.11, and the 2.0.27 kernel on a dual PPro 180
system.  The motherboard is a Tyan 1668D and the rest of the hardware
seems to be working properly.  Has *anyone* gotten a working
isapnp.conf/kernel configuration for this card?  I've been browsing
DejaNews, the Web, and the ISAPNPTOOLS page for the past 6 hours trying
to figure this out.  The documentation for how to set up an isapnp.conf
file is confusing, to say the least.  If anyone else has managed to get
it to work, I'd love to know how.

In case you're curious, the rest of the system includes:

1 2.1 GB Seagate EIDE Disk
1 3.2 GB Quantum Ultra-ATA
1 Matrix Mystique 220 w/4 MB
1 TEAC floppy drive
1 HP Colorado T3000 tape drive
1 6X Mitsumi CD-ROM drive

Other than the sound, it's a great system -- fast as hell, too.
Can't wait to overclock the thing...

regards,
Jim Wiggs
