Kernel Options for WebServer

Kernel Options for WebServer

Post by Max Clar » Fri, 27 Aug 1999 04:00:00

Thanks to everyone who helped with my Swapping problem.

So I am working to compile a new Kernel for this machine can anyone help
me create the optimal configuration for my system?

The OS is FreeBSD 3.2, the server is going to be co-located as a web
server (initially running JavaWebServer2.0, and will probably move to
Apache+Jserv), there will be a max of 5 telnet (maybe SSH) users, and
only 1-2 FTP sessions. The box will be serving requests to hundreds,
eventually thousands of web users.

The Hardware is a Dell PowerEdge 1300 (you know the one's that ship with
Linux)
PIII 450, 512 MB ram, Adaptec aic7890 with a 9.1 GB Drive, an IDE
CD-ROM, Floppy, and an Intel EtherExpress Pro 10/100B NIC. X is not
going to run, nor is a mouse going to be attached to this system. The
Parallel and Serial Ports are not going to be used. (attached is the
output of dmesg).

I am still fairly green to BSD so any help will be greatly experienced.
Oh did I mention this is replacing a RedHat5.2 server?

Max

Hmmm... you *did* configure swap, didn't you? How much?
