"ELF binary type not known" when running a Linux binary??

Post by Juhana Enqvis » Wed, 16 Apr 1997 04:00:00

When I'm trying to run smodem linux binary, I'm getting an error message
"ELF binary type not known". What's up? I've gotten a few other linux
binaries to work (like ascp).

Thanks

Well, following up myself, I got that one to work (man pages DO help :) with
brandelf. But now smodem (the program in question) reports:

LINUX: 'ioctl' fd=0, typ=0x54(T), num=0x15 not implemented
LINUX: 'ioctl' fd=0, typ=0x54(T), num=0x15 not implemented

over and over again.

Has anyone gotten smodem to work with FreeBSD?

1. Linux emu: "Elf binary type not known" (StarOffice, FreeBSD 2.2.2)

I was trying to get the StarOffice port working under FreeBSD 2.2.2
but am encountering a problem at least when trying to start it up...
When a user first runs StarOffice, it runs some kind of initialization
program to set up some user profile. At this stage it is dying with a
"Elf binary type not known" message.
I have grabbed the latest linux_lib port and also tried the two
StarOffice ports (31 and 31b4), without avail.

I know this stuff works in FreeBSD 2.2.5 but  really don't want to
have to upgrade this system. Is there anything medium/small thing I can
do to fix this ?

        Thanks.
