FBSD 2.2.1R -> 2.2.2R cdrom upgrade problem

Post by David A. Bad » Sun, 22 Jun 1997 04:00:00

Hi,
I just upgraded from FBSD 2.2.1R (CDROM) to 2.2.2R (CDROM). Most of
the upgrade went well. My root password somehow wasn't working, so I
used single-user mode to reset it, and then fixed up "rc.conf" and
rebuilt my kernel. I am having a warning message whenever I try to
login with "root":

login: login_getclass: unknown class 'root'

How can I get rid of this? What's the deal?

Also, the "top" port is listed as being broken now. Is this being
fixed?
Thanks,
david

I don't know if I'm answering my own question properly ;) but I just
read old news, and found this fix:

% cp /usr/src/etc/login.conf /etc/login.conf

Don't know about top, but the root login is explained in the file
ERRATA.TXT on thr CDROM.

You need the file "login.access" in the /etc directory.  Go get a copy
of it from the source (/usr/src/etc) disk!

The _standard_ top that comes with the binary installation of
2.2.2-RELEASE seems to work just fine for me...  No need to rebuild from
source.

1. FBSD 2.2.2R install problem

Hi,
I just received FBSD 2.2.2-R in the mail on CD-ROM and did an upgrade
from my 2.2.1-R installation.
"rc.conf" was created with defaults.
(sorry, my term config is messed up and I can't see what I'm typing
:)"
I can't get the root account working. I've rebooted in single user
mode, used vipw, copied the old passwd/master.passwd files and rebuilt
the pwd database, etc., all to no avail. When I try to su to root,
the error I get is:
su: login_getclass: unknown class 'root'

Thank you thank you thank you!
