Hylafax and Staroffice

Hylafax and Staroffice

Post by Jason Farende » Fri, 09 Mar 2001 02:31:15

Hi All,

I have succesfully managed to setup staroffice 5.2 under freebsd and
also hylafax. I am very happy with both products, but am curious to know
if anyone has any ideas about how I can send a document from staroffice
(or any other package for that matter) to my hylafax server.

I should point out that the two applications are on seperate machines...
I have played with tkhylafax and managed to make it talk to the hylafax
server on the second machine, but am still getting nowhere when it comes
to sending a fax from my office application.

Any advice/help would be most appreciated.

Thanks in advance

See http://www.hylafax.org/links.html#clients

I have an office with a FreeBSD internet gateway and hylafax server.
Actually using a combination of hylafax and mgetty+sendfax.
For incoming faxes via the modem I use mgetty+sendfax and hylafax for
the outgoing ones using the same modem and the 'whfc' client.  The
mgetty+sendfax lets you supply a user written program or shell script
to manipulate incoming faxes, ie /usr/local/lib/mgetty+sendfax/new_fax.
I wrote this shell script to convert g3 format faxes to postscript and
then print to a networked laserprinter.

Anyway back to your question, my clients are windows pc's and they are
using the 'whfc' client, see the above web site.  There are other clients
listed, some web based.

Thanks for the info John..... I was aware of whfc, which I have tested, and
which works fine with windos clients, as you just print to the fax port and
up pops the fax dialog.... unfortunately all of my clients are either BSD or
solaris ones also running star-office 52 and I am still unsure of how to
perform the same sort of actions from there!!

Any further ideas??

Thanks
Jason

1. hylafax 4.0pl2: libtiff 3.5.5 makes hylafax stop working.

for all running hylafax a short notice. i upgraded libtiff from 3.5.1 to
3.5.5. the sofware which requires 3.5.5 worked fine, but hylafax receiving,
sending and coverting (fax2ps) was broken. after researching i found that
the libtiff interface was changed to 32 bit. bringing libtiff 3.5.1 back on
the system lets hylafax run again smoothly.
