how can i use the com port?

Post by Benjami » Fri, 21 Sep 2001 19:06:08

i've got a mp3player (ponti 503 serial) and a software for uploading mp3's
(mpl3). mpl3 --help displays "ttyS0" as standard COM1 device. i tried it and
error: "COM OPEN". i guess this is the standard com1 device under linux? -
i'm using freebsd 4.4 RC 5. under /dev there is no "ttyS0" - i used "ttyd0"
but error: "not a serial or parallel device". windows98 with a different
software (ponti L.E.D.) works on COM1 without problems.
what is the COM1 device under freebsd? and can i make the "ttyS0" device
with the MAKEDEV script? and how it goes - "./MAKEDEV ttyS0" is not going.
hope someone read this and don't laugh :)

/dev/cuaa0 - /dev/cuaa3 correspond to Linux's ttyS0 to ttyS3.

"COM1" is /dev/cuaa0.

Also, if you are using this dev as a regular user, you need to modify
permissions on the device.

chmod 755 /dev/cuaa0 (or similar)
man chmod
