was "Re: gettext 0.10.35 compilation problems under Slackware"
[Note: I'm crossposting this to be helpful. So shoot me.]

[END HELPFUL PART]
On comp.os.linux.help, Rhys Ulerich needed:
[...]
Same problem I was having, why I looked here.
I was trying "--with-included-gettext", as per "./configure --help";
that didn't work, so I got the new gettext from alpha.gnu.org and
tried configuring that with "--enable-shared", "--enable-shared=yes",
etc. -- none of which worked either. I got only libintl.a. (I think
I tried "--with-gnu-gettext", if "./configure --help" showed it.)
So NOW ya tell me! :-)
Sigh.
Uh, that's TOO damn painful. I downloaded the Slackware packages
specifically to avoid compiling for a week.
THAT seems to have worked. THANKS, spud! It IS new, since April 21.

(Now if I could only figure out these other gnome-related problems, or
figure out what's wrong so I can ask questions about THOSE.)
Sighing,
TheDavid
P.S. Because this problem drove Ulerich nuts as well as me, I figured
a lot of people would need help for this. (Thanks again, Spud!)
P.P.S. Any flames about this crossposting will be virtually peed on.
