HEADS UP - CVS TREE CHANGES

Post by Matt Dill » Fri, 22 Jan 1999 04:00:00

Heads up everyone.  The version numbering changes that Jordan
posted as part of his state of the union address have been made
    to the CVS tree.

FreeBSD-stable is now considered to be the 3.x branch.

FreeBSD-current is now considered to be the 4.x branch.

Anyone using cvsup or otherwise pulling the system out of the CVS
tree needs to make the decision as to which branch to track.  A
lot of experimental stuff is being added to the new -current branch,
while bug fixes are ( supposed to be ) going into both branches.

When checking files out, you need to use the RELENG_3 tag to check
files out of the new -stable ( 3.x ) branch, aka
    'cvs checkout -rRELENG_3 ...'.

A cvs checkout without any tag specification will checkout files from
    the new -current ( 4.x ) branch.

                                                -Matt

>Hmmm. We no longer need "device sd0"?

CAM uses da0 instead of sd0.

1. current CVS tree vs released CVS tree

Hello,

I can't seem to find any documentation regarding the different directory
structures from the current (dev) CVS tree and the released structure.

In the releases, the source is in src/*

In the current (dev) CVS tree, the source is broken up into a few
directories:

    example:
        basesrc/*
        syssrc/*

Does anyone know why this is done this way?  Doesn't this confuse the
Makefiles?

 Thanks for any help.

 -Chris
