Problems getting Linksys wireless card w/PCI adapter to work

Post by Le » Sun, 21 Apr 2002 19:22:27

FreeBSD 4.4-Stable running on an i386 model cpu.
This isn't a laptop.  The card appears as a regular PCI device listed
by the bios when I boot.  Trying to configure pccard support just kept
failing which I suppose it right, so I removed all the pccard stuff.
I put if_wi_load="YES" in the loader.conf and rebuilt the kernel,
rebooted (BnB - Build'n'Boot).  I can tell from dmesg that if_wi.ko is
getting loaded during the boot:
Preloaded elf module "if_wu.ko" at ...
can't re-use a leaf (wi_cache_mcastonly)
can't re-use a leaf (wi_cache_iponly)
:
pci0: <unknown card> (vendor=0x16ab, dev=0x1102) at 10.0 irq 11
:

So what's next?   Can somebody please point me in the right direction?

Thanks for any help with this.  I'm tearing my hair out here.  I'm not
very familiar with FreeBSD.

1. Problem getting linksys WMP11 wireless pci card to talk to d-link router

HELP,

I'm so close.  I've got a linksys WMP11 wireless PCI card (just the
card, not the card with the PCMCIA adaptor) which I'm trying to
connect to a d-link wireless router (the configuration works fine
booting in windows 98, so it's not a hardware problem).  Running
Mandrake 8.2, I've installed kernel-wlan-ng-0.1.14-4.i386.rpm
successfully, then did everything outlined in the readme file, which
includes added the following lines to my rc.local file :

     modprobe prism2_pci
     wlanctl-ng wlan0 lnxreq_ifstate ifstate=enable
     wlanctl-ng wlan0 lnxreq_autojoin ssid=linksys authtype=opensystem
     ifconfig wlan0 192.168.0.20 netmask 255.255.255.0
     route add default gw 192.168.0.1

At reboot my LED doesn't stop blinking (as it does in windows), and I
can't ping my router.  I get this message

PING 192.168.0.1 (192.168.0.1) from 192.168.0.20 : 56(84) bytes of
data.
From 192.168.0.20: Destination Host Unreachable
From 192.168.0.20: Destination Host Unreachable
From 192.168.0.20: Destination Host Unreachable

--- 192.168.0.1 ping statistics ---
4 packets transmitted, 0 packets received, +3 errors, 100% packet loss

Ultimately,I would like to use DHCP, but I can't figure out how to get
that to work using ifconfig either.  Can someone please help me?
