I was gathering up all my old FBSD archives to write them to CD
for safekeeping, and I can't seem to find my FBSD-2.1.7.1 tapes.
Anyone know of any remaining 2.1.7.1-RELEASE archives, so I can
snatch a permanent archive set? I don't particularly need the
distfiles (or packages) tree, but the main distribution tree of
binary and source would be fine. If anyone could point me to
a tarball of that, or any remaining on-line archives, I would
be most appreciative.

I have been looking for this as well. It is still available at the German
mirror: ftp.de.freebsd.org. If this is too busy try the East-European
mirrors. They have a lot of 4MB RAM boxes over there and 2.1.7 installs on
them with no problems and no workarounds needed.
