Sticky Keys for the disabled

Sticky Keys for the disabled

Post by Stephen Montgomery-Smit » Tue, 23 Mar 1999 04:00:00

I while back I asked about how to use sticky keys on FreeBSD.
After an exhaustive web search, I did finally figure it out.
Start X with the +accessx switch on: e.g.

startx -- +accessx
or if you are using xdm
X +accessx

To activate/deactivate sticky keys, press shift 5 times.

There are also slowkeys (press shift for 8 seconds) and mousekeys
(press left shift then left alt then num lock).

It is described in
http://ccpc5.unican.es/doc/du-40D-doc/AQ917BTE/DOCU_013.HTM

I really think that this info should go into some FAQ's.

1. Sticky keys for the disabled

I know someone who is disabled, and I would like to develop sticky

instead of pressing SHIFT and 2 at the same time, you fist press
SHIFT, and then 2.  If you press SHIFT twice, the shift button
stays on until you press SHIFT again.  Same for CONTROL and ALT.

Has someone already done this?  If not, where does one make the
change - at the level of X, or at the level of the kernel.

Can someone direct me to where in the source I should look?  I
have done a little bit of C programming, so any help would be
very gratefully received.

Stephen
