hey

i just installed XFree86-4.1.0, and when i try to do a XFree86
-configure, or even just a startx after doing xf86 config, the server
crashes and says something like:
xf86enableIO: unable to open /dev/io for extended I/O
i made sure /dev/io is owned by root, and exists. any ideas? thanks.

Your securelevel is too high.

Sure , set

kern.securelevel=-1
in /etc/sysctl.conf and reboot.

You *should* be able to set it higher once X has started
(preferably via xdm otherwise you won't be able to log out
and back in without a reboot)

I gave up on securelevels when I couldn't update my ipf ruleset
(I have dynamic IP)
