4.0 and Sony CDU 33A install problem (for me)

Post by Piotr Teczyns » Fri, 31 Mar 2000 04:00:00

Hi,

I've just wanted to install FreeBSD v.4.0 from Sony CDU 33A drive.
However, I cannot find how to change default I/O address. In older
versions of FreeBSD I could easily change it via config menu at the
beginning of the installation procedure, but now, as I can see, the
option disappeared :-(  Any ideas?

TIA,
pt

I'm afraid that driver has been removed from the default kernel, in
order to make space for more modern hardware support.

Your best bet would be to install a 3.x system, and upgrade via the
source including a custom-kernel containing the correct driver.

Never trust an operating system you don't have sources for. ;-)

1. Problems installing Red Hat 4.0 (intel) from Sony CDU-33A

Hi,

I'm trying to install Red Hat 4.0 on my system, but it refuses to find
my CD-ROM unit.  I have tried to specify the parameters for the cdu31a
driver like:

cdu31a=0x230,0

But it still says it can't find the hardware, what gives?  The CD is
connected to a SB16-card.

I have used (and still do use) the same CD-ROM with Slackware 2.2
without any problems, maybe I should try Slackware 3.1 instead...
