I had FreeBSD 4.0-stable on my computer until recently; but I could not make
cdrecord work. It seems to support SCSI CDR equipment only on FreeBSD.
Is this correct? Do other cd burning programs that support IDE drives exist?

With FreeBsd v4.0 you have a binary called burncd
This allows you to record on atapi cdrw drives. I don't
beleive it helps with using cdrecord though.

Well, the drive is supported by the operating system, but i have as of
yet been unable to get it to work with cdrecord. take a look at
wisefreebsd.virtualave.net for more information on the included
utilities to get your cd-rw up and running

burncd is for IDE/ATAPI CD-R/CD-RW drives,
cdrecord is for SCSI CD-R/CD-RW drives.

Both do the same thing, but talk to different types of
drives.
