sound config with intel i810 mobo onboard sound

Hello,
I'm a newbie and trying to configure sound in FreeBSD 4.4
My mobo is intel i810 with onboard sound AC'97
now, following the FreeBSD handbook chapter 14, I don't see my card model
in the list. The Handbook says "if you don't see your card in the list,
check the pcm(4) manual page" and I did. But still I'm still not sure on
what I should add to my config file.

Will these 2 lines be appropriate:

device pcm
options PNPBIOS     #because my soundcard in onboard, Do I need this line?

If anybody has experience with sound config in intel i810 mobo, please
kindly help me

Another question is will the sound work with X (in this case I use KDE
2.2) once I get it to work in my system? ie: will I be able to play mp3
files using xmms in KDE

try:

# cd /dev
# sh MAKEDEV snd0
# kldload pcm

If you see something in /var/log/messages about an AC97 sound card, then it has
probably worked.

If it works in console mode, it will work under X.

1. Sound: Problem with Intel motherboard, onboard sound

Running redhat linux 2.2.14-5.0

I tried to do a sndconfig but it came up with the not supported problem, ie
Model: Intel Corporation|82801AA                 82810 AC'97 Audio is not
supported.

I tried other cards with the noprobe option but to no avail.
This led me to download alsa sound driver and it appeared to install ok, but
no sound
is coming out when i play sound files...

Can I use a later linux version that may have support ?
Is there any other alsa drivers or rpm for sound drivers out there ?

Thanks,
Nick
