I hope that someone will show mercy upon my ingnorance and rain down
manna upon my life.  I am receiving two errors in my attempt to set up
a mail hub:  Sender domain must exist, Data format error.

I have searched the sendmail forum, posted a previous message to that
forum, read Sendmail the book, done mans, read config notes, browsed
FreeBSD.org and cannot figure my problems out.  Please help!!!!

I am using FreeBSD 4.1 and have mostly kept the default sendmail config
for the hub.  I have created a sendmail.cf file for another box that is
essentially the client.cf in Sendmail, the bat book.

I have posted a ton on cofig info in another message on the sendmail
forum that starts with "yet another 501 error."  Here is the output of
sendmail -X:

I think that the DNS is not configured or does not recognize
sheader-family.org

Jabe,
I think the quick way to solve this problem s to put your domain name in
/etc/hosts

Edit the hosts file and add your ip address and your domain name like so. I
think that will do the trick. Please let me know.

performing a lookup on it's IP.  The shearer-family.org is
showing an MX record but it's that of the hosting company.

I have done a nslookup, type=MX for every server under every name in my
network.  In each case, the mail exchanger was shown to be the server I
expected.  What else could be missing?

Thanks for your assistance.  The problem was /etc/hosts on the
mailhub.  FYI shearer-family.org is being hosted temporarily at a
company until I get my network up and running and bugs like this worked

addresses, one which is being forwarded to a hosts at a company and the
one that is on my private (but soemday public) network.

Thanks again.

1. Sendmail problems. Please please please please help!

Just setting up FreeBSD 4, and I notice a number of differences in the
sendmail config system.  All good, I hope.

Anyway - My problem is a fairly simple one.  I cannot forward mail to my
internal machines.

/etc/mail/virtusertable:

/etc/mail/sendmail.cw contains esb.co.uk

Mail is recieved by the server, but mailq gives me:

                                (Deferred: Name server: euro2.esb.co.uk.:
host name lookup failed)

The DNS is set up okay as far as I can see...

Should the last full stop be there in the deferred message?  If not, where
will it be getting it from?

Help?

Matt
