I just installed the port for xmms and was looking forward to checking
out its new features. For those of you unfamiliar with it, its the new
"x11amp" with a name change. xmms.org
After I ran 'make install', it seemed to go in fine, but when i try
to run
'xmms' at the command prompt, it just hangs there. There is no window
nor any error mesg. I'm a bit confused. I am using WindowMaker 0.60. gcc
version 2.95.1 19990816 (release)
any body have similiar problems?

I had the same problem. I guess it happens because xmms doesn't adapt well to FreeBSD's scheduler, but I could be wrong.

Install xmms out of the port tree /usr/ports/audio/xmms, and it should work better.

Email the authors of xmms and tell them to port it ;)
