FreeBSD and Intel Pro/100 VM (ethernet card).

Greetings,

I have installed FreeBSD (4.2-RELEASE #0,

EN.

I have problems with the ethernet card (a Intel Pro/100 VM).

It works OK, for as-long as you do not pull to much traffic (like a
FTP of a file of half-a-megabyte). If I do that, I get this:

--- cut here --- cut here --- cut here ---
Mar  6 11:02:22 clio /kernel: fxp0: SCB timeout
Mar  6 11:02:27 clio /kernel: fxp0: device timeout
--- cut here --- cut here --- cut here ---

After that, all connectivity is lost for some time.

This annoying for two reason:
- I cannot even compile a port as this means he has to download the
source and the systems hangs-up.
- The box is intended to be used as a network management station. ;-)

Anybody any ideas?

Anycase: here is the part of the 'dmesg's:
--- cut here --- cut here --- cut here ---
Mar  2 16:45:19 clio /kernel: fxp0: <Intel PLC 10/100 Ethernet> port 0x1000-0x103f mem 0x40000000-0x40000fff irq 10 at device 8.0 on pci2
Mar  2 16:45:19 clio /kernel: fxp0: Ethernet address 00:02:a5:1a:c2:56
--- cut here --- cut here --- cut here ---

Cheerio! Kr. Bonne.

I can't help you with the device timeout but I would suggest that if
its new either exchange it or test it in a different machine.  I have
a slightly different card but if it helps you  -

fxp0: <Intel Pro 10/100B/100+ Ethernet> port 0xd000-0xd03f mem
0xfe900000-0xfe9fffff,0xfeafc000-0xfeafcfff irq 9 at device 6.0 on
pci0

It's one of these ethernet-cards on the motherboard. Anycase, I have
the same problem on all 4 boxes I'm currently installing FreeBSD.

Solution one:
'ifconfig fxp0 up'; solves the problem. Until it blocks again 20
seconds later. ;-)

Solution two: a 3com ethernet card in the PCI-slot!

1. Driver for Ethernet Intel Pro 100+ card

Hi all.

I've downloaded FreeBSD 4.5 mini and now I'm trying to install it in a
machine with an Ehternet Intel Pro 100+ card.

I see in the web page that the driver for an Intel Pro 100+ is the fxp
driver (Intel EtherExpress Pro/100B ethernet device driver), but when I'm
configuring the kernel it doesn't appear in the network drivers. Instead of
it appears the next networks drivers:

IBM EtherJet, CS89x0-based Ethernet adapters (cs)
 NE1000, NE2000, 3C503, WD/SMC80xx Ethernet adapters (ed)
 Fujitsu MB86960A/MB86965A Ethernet adapters (fe)
 AT&T Starlan 10 and EN100, 3C507, NI5210 Ethernet adapter (ie)
Isolan, Novell NE2100/NE32-VL Ethernet adapters (lnc)
 SMC/Megahertz Ethernet adapters (sn)

What can I do?

Thanks in advance.

Iago.
