PPPoE problem

Post by Galliu » Mon, 16 Apr 2001 21:58:02

Hi,
I have some problem on ppp.
I am using FreeBSD 4.1.1, and I have built a custom kernel with option
NETGRAPH in order to set up PPPoE. But I could not start ppp, some message
was wrote to my console:

Quote:> module_registor: module netgraph already exists!
> linker_file_sysinit "netgraph.ko" failed to register! 17
> Warning: ddfl1: Cannot send a netgraph message: No such file or directory

What am I missing? How can I recover it?

Thanks,
gallium

Why not try FreeBSD 4.2,...  That problem may have already been addressed.

I did the same as you.  I get this message also, but it works,
nonetheless.  It doesn't annoy me enough to try to figure out why.

I don't get this message, though.  Do you have /modules/netgraph.ko and
/modules/ng_pppoe.ko?

I had the same problem when I first setup PPPOE, to correct this I had to
put NETGRAPH_ETHER in my kernel (don't forget to recompile). The problem
went away, I found this solution in a forum (can't remember where inorder to
refer you to it - sorry).

Good Luck!!

1. pppoe problem

I'm running Debian potato with a 2.4.7 kernel, with ppp (among other
things) compiled in.  I'm using a 3Com 3c509 to connect to the DSL
modem, and a Winbond-840 card to talk to the LAN.  I'm using rp-pppoe
to connect.  I configured it, and when I run adsl-start, it says
"CONNECTED" and ifconfig shows a ppp0 connection with a dynamic IP
address.  I can ping that IP address, and my LAN, but I can't ping
anything on the net itself.

I know the modem and line are good, because I can hook it up to my
Windoze machine and it works fine, and it worked with a RH 6.2 system
(with basically the same kernel, except different network cards) a
couple of days ago, until my drive died. :-(

Can anyone think of something that might be configured improperly?
