Open Office Install

Post by dsavits » Mon, 06 Jan 2003 05:25:34

Hi,  I am attempting to put OpenOffice on my computer.  It is a PII 350/256
(fbsd 4.7), so I am assuming that building from the port is not my best
option (not to mention that

# cd /usr/ports/editors/openoffice
# make install

failed as it was unable to download the source.)  To that end, I downloaded
what appeared to be a FreeBSD package from openoffice.org.  pkg_add does not
work, however.  Can anybody tell me how to get this installed?  Thanks.

Hi!

I think it would take quite some time and disk space (aroudn 4 GB),
but it's still the best of all worlds.

Quote:>failed as it was unable to download the source.)

First, make a ports update by:

  cd /usr/ports/net/cvsup-without-gui
  make
  make install
  cp /usr/share/examples/cvsup/ports-supfile /root
  # add some cvs mirror host, e.g.
  *default host=cvsup2.de.FreeBSD.org
  cvsup -L 2 -g ports-supfile | /usr/bin/tee /var/tmp/cvsup-ports 2>&1

Then, try again.

It takes quite some time, as it requires jdk13x, which requires
linux-jdk13x to install, which requires the linux emulator
and so on.

But, I did it that way and it worked very, very fine afterwards.

If you want to try my compiled package, get it from

ftp://ftp.LF.net/pub/unix/systems/FreeBSD/packages/openoffice-1.0.1_4...
