Couldn't load XKB keymap

Post by Antoine Jacouto » Thu, 09 Jan 2003 21:39:51

Hello...

I'm having a strange problem under FreeBSD-STABLE with XFree86 (from the
ports collection). I can't get accents nor special caracter (like
pipe...) to work. I have no problem under the console though.
I found this in my XFree86.0.log:

(**) XKB: model: "pc105"
(**) XKB: layout: "fr"
Couldn't load XKB keymap, falling back to pre-XKB keymap

Anyone have an idea about what I did wrong.
Thanks in advance.

Antoine

Can you post the keyboard section from your XF86Config file?  Which port did
you use to install X?

Perhaps you're missing a keymap file, because the port didn't install
completely/properly, or it was the wrong port.  Or there might be a typo or
something in your config file.

Did you write your own config file, or did you use xf86config or another tool?

The simpler the instruction, e.g. "press here", the
more difficult it will be to open the package.

I've just solved the problem...: I reinstalled all XFree86 from the
ports.
I think that my problem was because I used things like XFree86-server
from the ports and XFree86-libs from the packages collection...
I thank you very much anyway for your quick answer.

Couldn't load XKB keymap

I don't know why this happens sometimes. I wish I knew.
When it happenned on my otherwise very good install, I solved it
by:

removing /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb
and replacing it with a copy of /etc/X11/xkb

1. Couldn't load XKB Keymap

I get the following message when I shut down X while logged in as root:

keyboard description

I do not get this same message if I am logged on as a regular user.

Can anybody tell me what the problem is and how would I go about fixing it?

Thanks, Ralph
