Fatal Trap 12: page fault while in kernel mode

Post by Anders Hansse » Wed, 27 Sep 2000 04:00:00

Hi all!

At work we've just bought a new server, it's a pIII 800 with 3x256MB
on a Abit MB with BX chipset.

FreeBSD-4.1 installed without problems. when we tried to boot the fresh
system, we got a "Fatal Trap 12" after the copyright notice:

                        = DPL 0, pres 1, def32 1, gran 1
processor flags         = interrupt enable, resume, IOPL=0
current process         = Idle
interrupt mask          = net tty bio cam
trap number             = 12
panic: page fault
Uptime: 0s

Can anyone help us out here? What are cousing this?

BTW: specificatins:
Abit BX133RAID s370/FCPGA BX440 (with a HP370 controller)
(I know the ATA-controller isn't supported, so i disabled it in BIOS)
3 x 256MB PC133 for BX
Intel pIII 800EB PC133 w/256kB

Thanks in advance!

Now we've tried another motherboard, Abit BE6, with a supported ata66
controller (hp366) -- but still no go.

The box works just fine with Linux and win32.

My latest theory is that it has something to do with the disks (one
30Gb IBM ata100, two 45Gb IBM ata100) since the panic occurs when
writing to the disks.

Anyone, please?

I know there's currently a bug in STABLE that can cause
problems with ata0-slave - in my case , I can't see my CD at all.
It broek on the 22nd August; when did you last build world?

details at:

http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=20924

Don't know if that's your problem , but possibly related?

I fixed it by rolling back my source tree to 21st of August.
