Eternal problems with mail readers

Post by Bill Mora » Tue, 22 Aug 2000 04:00:00

I spent the weekend trying to find a decent MUA to use under X
(Actually, I'd be happy with one that works at a terminal at this point,
if it supported what I need)
I tried balsa, but everytime I tried to add a POP3 account it told me I
couldn't unless I gave it a name, even though I had given it a name.
I tried sylpheed, but it refuses to delete messages no matter what I do.
Nets*(4.7?) doesn't support multiple POP3 accounts.

Basically what I want is a MUA that will do multiple accounts and keep
them at least organized enough that I know which account the mail goes
with. I'm spoiled by the GUI so I would prefer something that works
under X.
Any suggestions?

If I can't find anything, I think I'll try hacking balsa to let me add
POP3 accounts. It's hard to know if it's any good when I couldn't get
past that point!

TIA,
Bill

I've been looking at a lot of these recently. The only one that
seems to do everything the demanding user could want is called
xfmail. It's a nice tool, though it uses the xforms toolkit so
it's not that good looking. I got it either from the latest
ports collection or from freshmeat -- sorry, don't remember
which.

Dave.

Btw, some folks here use the mail client from Netscape Communicator.

That's what I'm currently using. It doesn't support multiple POP3
accounts.

There is also TkRAT which requires TK and TCL that is very good.
It supports multiple occurances of both POP (ugh) and IMAP (yeah),
and has a nice GUI.

1. Need mail reader and Newsgroup Reader that uses encryption

I need a good email program that can use PGP or GPG encryption.  I'd like to
start signing my emails and stuff.  right now this is on windows, but Im
ready for the full changeover (sorta, using VNC...)  I dont want to be
cutting and pasting my emails to encrypt them.  I refuse to use any command
line tools.  Thats just about my only requirements I suppose.

So can anyone recomment an email program as well as a newsgroup reader for
RH8 that can do these things.  That has an RPM....  I'm a linux noob and I
need simplicity.

Thanks a lot!!!
