User PPP - can't maintain connected

Post by Dominic W. Cha » Tue, 23 Sep 1997 04:00:00

I was wonder if anyone could help me with this problem.  I am trying to set
up my USER PPP to connected to my ISP, (dyn IP assigning)  I config my
hosts, host.conf, resolv.conf, ppp.conf, etc)

1) One of my isp, I have no problem getting connection nd maintain
connection with them (lightstream.net), but the second isp (apk), which use
the a relative same profile as my first one, I could get connecte to them,
but the connection will only last about 2 minutes.  I have try everything,
nothing work.  Do you have any idea???

Below are my files and configuration

host.conf
# $Id: host.conf,v 1.2 1993/11/07 01:02:57 wollman Exp $
hosts
bind

host
127.0.0.1               localhost localhost.my.domain

resolv.conf
# - LightStream -
nameserver      209.57.113.10
nameserver      209.57.113.11
#
# - APK -
nameserver      207.54.159.4
nameserver      207.54.159.2

ppp.linkup
MYADDR:
  delete ALL
  add 0 0 HISADDR

ppp.conf
# $Id: ppp.conf,v 1.5.2.6 1997/09/10 23:08:52 brian Exp $
#################################################################
default:
  set device /dev/cuaa0
  set speed 38400
  set dial "ABORT BUSY ABORT NO\\sCARRIER TIMEOUT 5 \"\" ATE1Q0 OK-AT-OK
\\dATDT\\T TIMEOUT 40 CONNECT"
lightstream:
  set phone 9186053
set login "TIMEOUT 5 login:-BREAK-gin: username word: password"
  set timeout 120
  deny lqr
  set ifaddr 209.57.113.1/0 209.57.113.254/0  255.255.255.0
apk:
  set phone 2417541
set login "TIMEOUT 5 login:-BREAK-gin: username.ppp word: password"
  set timeout 120
  deny lqr
  set ifaddr 207.54.160.1/0 207.54.160.254/0  255.255.255.0

2) What additional step must I do to have my profile to work with ppp on
demand or auto ppp??

Any help and feedback will be greatly appreciated

Try "set timeout 0" in your ppp.conf file.

Have you tried adding "disable lqr" in your ppp.conf file before the
deny?

1. User PPP - Can't make it connect automatically.

I'm fairly new to FreeBSD and I'm having trouble with the user PPP.  I
can start it up with 'ppp sitename' and it loads all the variables
correctly.  If I 'dial' it connects, but never enters PPP mode.  If I go
into term mode, dial manually, and ~p to enter packet mode, it works
just fine.

I'm connecting to an Annex terminal server which supports PPP on its own
using PAP.  It works as follows, when the modems connect, *immediately*
enter packet mode and start sending PPP packets down the pipe.  When the
Annex sees packets coming it, it initiates the PAP procedure.

~p right after connect works great, automatic mode (with all
combinations of PAP tried) doesn't work.

(Also, on a slightly different problem, when using X (from startx) the
user PPP works fine the *first* time.  After that, it echoes whatever I
type in term mode back at me, apparently sending it through the modem
and having it returned, but the modem doesn't respond to any commands
even after power-cycling.  Exiting X and restarting it solves the
problem.)
