More than likely a question with an extremely simple answer
however ......
I need to create a new group in /etc/group so that I can give
it some special permissions on a dir for ftp purposes.
Any help appreciated

in 3.0, this may be what you want. It certainly put a new
group entry in /etc/groups. Alternatively, you can just
edit /etc/groups and add an entry following the format
given in <man group>.
/stand/sysinstall
C: configure
U: user management
new group

1. Dnews group creation question
First off, my apologies for asking what may be a *very* stupid
question, but it's been bugging me for the past day now and
I'm at the end of my tether :)
I am new to news server administration and have recently begun
administering a Dnews 5.5d1 news server on a Solaris 7 box.
My problem is creating a new top level *expandable* group.
Don't get me wrong - I've RTFM'd the manual and ran a
tellnews newgroup <group> y|m <uname> <descrip>
and added a group no problem.
What I cannot manage to do is to make this group expandable,
i.e. to add a group and then add further groups *within*
this new group's hierarchy.
All the test groups I've created just end up being flat.
Go on flame away, just please provide some pointer to what
I may have missed in the manual :)
