Which SIO call is used to obtain the mac address associated with a socket.

Does anyone know what SIO call is used to get the mac address assocated
with a socket?
On Tru64 it is SIOCRPHYSADDR on Linux it is SIOCGIFHWADDR.
I tried SIOCGLIFPHYADDR but that did not seem to give me the data I want.
