Anyone gotten a Wyse-85 to work with FreeBSD???

Anyone gotten a Wyse-85 to work with FreeBSD???

Post by Ken Heite » Sat, 28 Mar 1998 04:00:00

I have a little problem...my FreeBSD machine is set up right, my null modem
cable is working fine, my Wyse-85 works (we got it working with a modem to
another server), but I cannot get the thing to work with my FreeBSD box.
Is there anyone who has gotten this pairing of equipment to work that is
willing to tell me how to properly set up my Wyse-85?  I have no manuals
so I have just been going on trial and error with no avail.  Thanks.

I have a Wyse60, but it sounds like the problems are similar.  I take it
you're using the correct entry from /etc/termcap, right?  Probably
something like a wy85 would do the trick.  That taken care of, the
problem (was in my case) a parity issue.  Instead of using the default:

std.9600 in /etc/ttys for that serial port,

create your own, such as wy.9600 or something which will refer to a
specification in /etc/gettytab like this:

wy.9600|wyse-60:\
        :ap:sp#9600:

which I added by hand in /etc/gettytab.

Then have /etc/ttys look at this by adding the entry in /etc/ttys:

ttyd1   "/usr/libexec/getty wy.9600"    wy60    on secure

That should do it.  I think a "kill -1 1" will cause the /etc/ttys to be
rescaned so you do that then turn on the wyse and it should be working.
