Hi gang,

I just want to make sure .. so I am asking you...
On the release of OpenBSD 2.9, the guys have greatly improved
ffs performance (some tests show - 60x)... and FreeBSD adopted it
but to -CURRENT, as far as I know... but the question is -
Was this fix applied to FreeBSD 4.3 or will it be in
FreeBSD 4.4 or I am missing the issue?
Thnx

As I read their press release the speed gains are the result of ingrating
softupdates. If I guess correctly, they probably got it from NetBSD, which got
it from FreeBSD. I THINK 4.0 was the first time softupdates appeared and has
been standard since. 5.0 or so is supposed to have the next interation,
improvement on UFS for FBSD.

That 60x figure is associated with dirpref - it is for extreme cases
where there is a lot of movement in small files, normal use wouldn't see
anything like that kind of improvement.
