Can't connect to Cyrus 2.0.16 on FreeBSD 4.4

Post by Paul M » Sun, 24 Feb 2002 10:35:23

Hi,
I built Cyrus 2.0.16 from the /usr/ports dir on a (Intel) FreeBSD 4.4
machine. I added the --with-openssl option  in the Makefile. It builds fine
and I can start the 'master' service, but any attempt to connect  fails with
the following error in the logs and on the console:

Feb 22 20:29:12 earl imapd[32359]: add_plugin(/usr/lib/sasl/libkerberos4.so)
failed: generic failure
Feb 22 20:29:12 earl imapd[32359]: add_plugin(/usr/lib/sasl/libkerberos4.so)
failed: generic failure

This happens when I try to connect over the network or locally using cyradm.
Has anyone run into this problem? Any ides? Thanks much.

Paul M.

Sorry, I forgot to mention-- /usr/lib/sasl/libkerberos4.so exists and is
r-x by all. It is a soft link to /usr/lib/sasl/libkerberos4.so.1.

Try delete it ;)
(for safe move to other place)

Can't connect to Cyrus 2.0.16 on FreeBSD 4.4

Thanks to Jarek for his advice on moving the file. I no longer get the
error message, but I'm getting another error message (a step in the right
direction). Below is a sample cyadm session, run as user "cyrus":

% cyradm
cyradm> connect localhost
server: localhost: cannot authenticate
localhost> connect -noauthenticate localhost
localhost> auth cyrus
authenticate: authentication to server localhost failed
localhost>

I'm fairly new to cyrus and this is a brand new install built from the
ports collection. I've been reading the docs, but can't pinpoint my problem.
I'm not using Kerberos, and would like to authenticate users by sasldb or
/etc/passwd (I'm on a trusted network). After moving the libkerberos4 file,
I was able to add the user 'marqrdt' to the sasl database by running
"saslpasswd -c marqrdt". User 'marqrdt' exists as a real user in
/etc/passwd. Below is my imapd.conf file:

configdirectory: /usr/local/etc/imap
#defaultpartition: default
partition-default: /var/spool/imap
#umask: 077
#allowanonymouslogin: no
#quotawarn: 90
#timeout: 30
#poptimeout: 10
#popminpoll: 0
#logtimestamps: no
plaintextloginpause: 2
pwcheck_method: sasldb
#srvtab: /etc/srvtab
#loginrealms: <none>
#loginuseacl: no
sieveusehomedir: false
sievedir: /usr/local/etc/imap/sieve
#hashimapspool: false
sasl_pwcheck_method: passwd
sasl_auto_transition: no

    Here is /etc/sasl.db:
-rw-r-----  1 root  cyrus  16384 Feb 23 10:00 /etc/sasldb.db

Try rw for an user and rw for a group and check other cyrus files for the
same.

I remember having played with cyrus some times ago and having found this
problem. Have you tried
cyradm localhost
If i remember well it was such a small move to make it work.

1. 'Talk' can't talk on Freebsd 4.4?

Hi guys,

I ran 'talk' today on my freshly installed 4.4-release box, the thing keeps
on reporting "checking for invitation on caller's machine." I enabled ntalkd
in inetd.conf and it doesn't really ressolve the problem. I then try out
/usr/libexec/ntalkd and it reported something like "open socket on
non-socket" or something similar to that. Anyone knows what's the matter
with my installation?
