Dot clock (driving clock frequency) for Tseng Lab ET4000?

Post by Sam Tze-San Fu » Sat, 25 Dec 1993 16:11:00

Does anyone know the dot clock (or driving clock frequency) for Tseng Lab
ET4000?  I am trying to run XFree but I couldn't find the dot clock from the
manual.

Thanks in advance!

*IF* XF86_SVGA is able to run on your hardware, then you can let it
figure out the clocks on its own.  On my Orchid "Pro Designer IIs"
ET4000 board it reports
  25.18 28.32 32.50 36.20 40.00 44.90 79.90 65.00
  12.60 14.30 16.20 18.10 20.01 22.50 39.90 0.0
Your clocks are probably different.

*BUT* XF86_SVGA is not able to start and run reliably on all hardware.
It would not start reliably on my "386-WB" generic motherboard, and
there is no hardware troubleshooting provision in it so I will never know
*what* XF86_SVGA tries to do that no other software does.
It starts every time on my new Am486DX-40 in its new generic motherboard.

If XF86_SVGA won't run on your ET4000, it may not be the dot clocks.
It may not have anything to do with Xconfig at all.

There's not just one dot clock, and there are many.  Also, there are many
different designs of boards using the ET4000.  Since you didn't mention a
brand or model, I suspect it will be difficult to give you any facts...
