3-button mouse only works as 2?

3-button mouse only works as 2?

Post by Robert W. Ig » Fri, 17 Feb 1995 13:49:13

I have a 3-button Microsoft-compatible mouse, and the only way I can get
middle-button action out of it is to uncomment the Emulate3Buttons line in
XF86Config and use the Left and Right buttons simultaneously.  I've got
no idea how to convince it I really have 3 buttons, and I also don't have
any way to determine whether or not the middle button is actually working.
Obviously, if the Middle button is hosed, so am I.

Any suggestions about how to get it to see all 3 buttons, or any idea as
to how I could check to see if the middle button is really working
just in terms of the hardware would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Just a tough...
Did you open your mouse and check, are there really three switches for
three buttons? It's not a joke, they make really such a
dumb mices (in Thailand I think). I had the same problem with my mouse,
fortunately it's connected to windoze-box :) and I don't care.

Robert, you might have the same problem I have had. I got a new Dexxa
mouse, made by logitech, that has three buttons. However, its default
reset mode is Microsoft 1200bps. The Microsoft mode is only TWO buttons.
Just look at a Microsoft mouse. Some multimode mice are programmable via
the RTS and DTR lines as to which mouse mode they to be. In XF86Config
there are two inputs in the pointer section, ClearDTR and ClearRTS. Try
using a combination of these to select a different mode such as
Mousesystems or MouseMan. Refer to the XF86Config man page for more
information. I use Xfree86 3.1.
