Very Computer

I just moved from Linux 1.1.75 to 1.1.81 and now neither loadlin (v1.5)
or a boot disk will boot my system (I'm using umsdos). Load says the
file is invalid and the bootdisk with the new kernel on it just hangs
as soon as the drive tries to access it. I recompiled the kernel three
times but still have the same problem. Can anyone tell me what the
problem is?
