ATI GUP (ISA) Mouse Help Needed <sorry>

Can someone with an ATI Graphics Ultra Pro ISA card please tell me how
to get the mouse working? I've tried everything I can think of; verifies
interrupt numbers, recompiled the kernel, tried every /dev/ driver...

Slackware 1.1.1 and a new video card at the same time (I changed two
things at once - dumb!). Anyway, I get the "device or resource busy" or
the "ms_init: invalid parameter" message, depending on teh driver I try.
The Inport busmouse is detected and reported at boot time. The mosue is
on IRQ 5, set using the DOS install program, and it works fine under
OS/2.

So, just a detailed report on the busmouse.h setup, the mouse INSTALL
settings, whatever...this is making me crazy! Until I get the kernel to
deal with the mouse, I can't move on to trying out the X Server, and I
need that quite soon!

Apologies for asking; I really *have* read every FAQ/HOWTO I could find.

Also, I'm getting a "selected partition not formatted" from the OS/2
Boot Manager, preventing me from booting Linux of the hard disk. Boots
fine off the floppy the Slackware install put together for me - is this
related?

Be sure to have it configured as Logitech busmouse. The hell knows, why ATI
doesn`t use its own format anymore, that tokk me some hours and
finally an
grep "mouse" faq* (It *IS* in there ... Hard to find though...)

[stuff deleted]

I had the same problem getting an ATI Mach8 card's mouse up and running.
Same messages and so on...finally, making a new kernel pulled me out of
the mud. I had to turn on the ATI busmouse support in the kernel config.
Don't let the "Inport busmouse detected.." message mislead you - you'll
have to build a new kernel.

ATI GUP (ISA) Mouse Help Needed <sorry>

Post by Michael We » Thu, 13 Jan 1994 19:28:22

Hi folks,

I've got the problem to make my mouse run under X too. I just installed
Slackware 1.1.0 with XFree86 2.0 and am using an ATI Graphics Vantage with
busmouse. I removed ``selection'' from /etc/rc, recompiled the kernel with
correct IRQ (I know that I have to set the IRQ in busmouse.h to 9 when
DOS--program says IRQ 2 which is default for the mouse), linked /dev/mouse to
/dev/bmousems (ATI's busmouse should be 100% compatibel to MS busmice) and
tried all lines in Xconfig I could imagine:

busmouse [tab] "/dev/mouse"
busmouse [tab] "/dev/bmousems"
BusMouse [tab] "/dev/mouse"
microsoft [tab] "/dev/mouse"
microsoft [tab] "/dev/bmousems"

The only result was that X started with an unmovable mouse pointer.  If anyone
had an idea what I could do in addition, I would be very thankful for his help.

1. LILO help <><><><><><>

I just installed RH6 on a box that only had a 50MB DOS partition to
begin with.
During the RH install, I used Disk Druid to set up additional
partitions as follows:
/       ~1 GB
swap    ~40 MB
/usr    ~500 MB
/boot   ~10 MB

When prompted, I told it to install LILO into the "/boot" partition.

Upon restarting the system after the install, it booted into DOS again
from my origional active DOS partition.

I tried booting from the emergency rescue disk that I was prompted to
create during the install, but it gives me an error "0x10" and stops.

I can boot using the RH "boot.img" boot disk, hitting F4, and then
inserting the "rescue.img" disk made from dosutils on the RH CD, but I
have no idea what to do from there.

I want to make the thing boot with LILO and ask whether to start DOS or
boot Linux (as default). I realize now that I probably shoud've just
told it to install LILO into the MBR.

Please tell me there is an easy/painless way to get LILO to do this
without re-installing totally.

Please respond via Email to:  jack972 [<at>] netzero [<dot>] net

Many thanks!
